Narrator: I spent most of my life in the most boring city in America.
Granted, that could be a blessing on most days.
Chesapeake, Virginia was never known for having tornados or tons of crime
or anything like that. However, like I said.. It got boring.
I grew up in Deep Creek, which was next to a smelly creek.
And on hot days, the smell made it incredibly hard to be outside.
The area wasn't as good a Norfolk, but it was better than Portsmouth.

Mom: I can't wait to move! Tired of being in this town. There's
nothing to do! I want to go the Islands.

Narrator: I had a lot of friends that came from a lot of backgrounds.
One was Icelandic, another was african-american, another was Italian
and another was caucasian. We'd spend so much time going to the movies,
going to the mall, and hang out in each others garages. One of
them had a dad who worked at Pepsi co and brought home sodas that never
even hit the stores! However, the world didn't work like my group of friends.
Where we all accepted each other, where we spent time together
learning about one another, hanging out in garages and drinking
sodas just cause they were there.
And I eventually learned that even some of my friends were more like
the rest of the world than I was.
